Jack: But there’s one small detail I usually like to ascertain before launching a full-scale manhunt for a missing person.
Allison: And that would be?
Jack: That there is, in fact… a person missing. [opens the hatch] Hi, Brian.
Allison: Brian.

Jack: You gotta be kidding me. All right, let’s see if Mrs. Perkins has the code.
Jo: Susan!
Jack: Doesn’t anyone do anything halfway around here? [the house starts trembling] Hey, Jo, any luck on that code?
Jo: Nope. But I found a key.
Jack: Oh.

I was looking around to see what kind of shows were out there, what could I possibly work on. And I read a lot of pilots, and when I read the pilot of Eureka — and this was five months before I was ever lucky enough to land a gig on the show — I said to myself, “Wow! This is exactly the kind of show I want to work on!” It’s funny. It’s got great science fiction, epic ideas and has a big quality to it. It’s got some romance, it’s got some sparks. You know, there’s a great romance between… What would become the romance between Carter and Allison. There was still the inkling of it was still there in the pilot script. And it was so imaginative! It was a two-hour pilot, so you could really sink your teeth into the world and really understand what the possibilities were for the show. And I saw the possibilities as endless. Jack: Well… I tried a desk job when Zoe was born.
Beverly: Change to make others happy, you end up making yourself miserable.
Jack: That’s exactly what I told Abby.
Beverly: But she felt you were choosing your job over them.
Jack: Yeah, and I told her it’s not that simple. I mean, it’s not just a job. I stop bad people from doing bad things.
Beverly: Well, I’m sure that’s a tremendous comfort when you go home at night. Alone.
Jack: So you don’t pull punches.
Beverly: I’ve counseled some prominent people, Marshal. Diplomats, dignitaries. Even a few presidents.
Jack: I knew that was him.
Beverly: They don’t pay me to pull punches. They want honesty.
[Beverly leans in]Allison: Easy, Marshal. It’s us.
Jack: Where’s Beverly? Is she okay?
Beverly: Aside from a bruised ego. I never had a man fall asleep on me before.
